Lilliputian fungus
My cold developed as predicted, and I felt pretty grotty for a couple of days. It's clearly quite a virulent form, as it's swept through our whole family in the course of three days! But today I started to feel a lot better, so took advantage of the one dry hour in the day to visit my local wood.
I had a very contented time poking around all the old stumps,, finding bright orange slime mould fruiting bodies (see extra) and slimy witches' butter. But it was these tiny fungi that had me fascinated, growing among moss on tree trunks. This one was probably 7mm in height, and the cap was only about 3mm across! So incredibly tiny, as you can see from the moss, which appears to dwarf it. Having posted the image to iSpot, i now believe it might be a Frosty Bonnet Mycena adscendens.
