Pain in the rain

There's always something to catch the eye at Southampton's premier shopping centre at West Quay.
Like them, or hate them, when you need to be out shopping on a day like today when there's incessant rain, the idea of being able to stay totally undercover in a warm and tolerant atmosphere has a lot going for it.
I wasn't really in need of anything, but a couple of hours spent mooching round the shops provided a worthwhile distraction from being in the open in the high street any town, anywhere.
It's not such a joy when it's time to leave however. Have you noticed how inclement weather seems to bring every commuting road to a standstill.
The time under cover people watching and window shopping was fair enough.
But slightly more than an hour and a half for an 18 mile car journey in and out of the city centre was painful.
Perhaps I should have stayed at home after all!
