Armed forces

It's not every day in New Zealand that a small country school's Pet Day is attended by gun toting militants!

We held our Field Day  (pet day) today and it was a gorgeous blue sky day - perfect for a day outdoors - though I suspect it will mean some sunburn got shared around. It was well attended by a wide variety of animals:
cats, dogs, lambs, sheep, goats, calves, horses, ponies, chooks, cockatiels, turtles, cockatoos, rabbits, ducks and slugs (the latest fashion in pets).

It was also well attended by the local militia.  We are in the midst of Operation Katipo there in Murchison and some of the Defence Force exercise necessitated these guys being part of the crowd.  Based on the scenario of the exercise they made us feel 'safe' and protected from the Becaran Government forces (which arrive by the hundreds in town tomorrow).  Murchison will be hosting soldiers from many different countries while they play out the scenarios - and us locals will be very involved in the 'game'.

The kids (and many adults I suspect) are going to love it!
