Cael ei fawr!

We set off mid morning for our weekend break in Wales.

The weather wasn't great and isn't meant to be that good all weekend, but we are happy just to be away and chill out together.

We've taken my car (William) to give him a long drive as he doesn't really get out much with me! Mr A (as always) was designated driver.

First stop was Rhyl. We hadn't planned to go there, but it wasn't too much out of the way and we were hungry, so it seemed a good idea.

I remember visiting there when I was younger but sadly my memories of the place were far better than what was actually there today.

Not helped by the miserable, rainy weather and the fact it's out of season, but what a dump! We had a mooch round the centre but decided to carry on driving to find somewhere else to eat.

Our lunch stop was at the Welsh Food Centre (what better place?) and was fab! We only wanted a light bite but ended up with the biggest salmon fish cake I've ever seen! With chips like my grandma used to make, it was excellent.

It was only another 20 minutes drive until we reached our hotel in Betws-y-Coed.

We had dinner booked at the hotel, which was really good. After that we had a stroll down the main road and found a busy bar with loads of outdoor seating (& patio heaters). There seemed to be a lot of people sitting outside; we realised why when we went in to order drinks.....the Friday night entertainment was a male voice choir!
They were good (if you like that kind of thing), but we felt better out of earshot.

Tomorrow we are going to visit Portmerion; Mr A has mentioned about going there a few times on the bike, but we've always ended up somewhere else. Hopefully it won't rain too much :-)

For those who don't speak Welsh, the title means 'having it large'!
