How heron comes
Went out early this morning with a group of birders to the Union Bay Natural Area. It was cold and raining, but we saw so many birds. We saw a bald eagle fly over the water and the ducks and geese and coots and many other water fowl were right below. We walked further down to a wetland pond just as this young blue heron was coming in for a landing. What a beautiful bird. It was worth getting soaked to the skin to see this.
"How heron comes
It is a negligence of the mind
not to notice how at dusk
heron comes to the pond and
stands there in his death robes, perfect
servant of the system, hungry, his eyes
full of attention, his wings
pure light”
