Walking on ice... and the aurora...

First full day in Iceland - out of the city before sunrise, and to a geothermal plant, then on to the wonderful curtain waterfall of Skogafoss before heading to the outlet glacier of Solheimajokull. Crampons, helmets and ice axes on, and we were onto the ice, past moulins and crevasses and into the secret ice cave. The sun set while we were on the ice, with stunning light on the ice and down the valley. Walked back to the coach to check into our remote hotel by the sea, and took a walk outside before the evening meal to see the sky ablaze with the aurora borealis!! A stunning show for several hours which I failed to capture completely... A memorable day, and the Icelandic cod and mash were great too.
