Old mobile crane at the Graving Docks, Cardiff Bay
This old crane has been left on the dockside at the Mount Stewart Graving Dock as a tribute to all the industry which once covered this vast area. This particular grade II listed structure was in fact a ship repair dock. It is one of three identical docks which are 500 feet long and 100 feet wide and 34 feet deep with stepped walls. They had manually operated waterproof gates fitted at the open end. The building directly behind the crane is the Techniquest Centre which is a science discovery centre with 160 interactive exhibits and a planetarium. I believe it has a sister centre in Wrexham, North Wales.
