If you can't beat them...

Great Haywood Junction.

No time for photography as the syndicate meeting takes most of the daylight hours.   WE stopped quickly between the caravan and the meeting and took shots which tend to appear in our journal the first weekend in November every year.

This is the junction of the Trent and Mersey Canal and the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal.  The S & W is through the arch of the bridge on the right.  If you look carefully you can see the bridge is paved in bricks with alternate rows higher than the others.  This was to give the horses which pulled the working boats a grip on the quite steep slope, particularly in the wet or snow.

The wide part of the T & M in front of the bridge is to allow room to turn.  Working boats were 70 foot long and took space to turn.  The generally shorter and motor powered leisure boats of today don't always find the turn easy.
