Deepavali

Deepavali comes from Sanskrit, meaning a "row" or "series of lights". Its celebration is commonly held to include millions of lights shining on housetops, outside doors and windows, around temples and other buildings to symbolise the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, hope over despair.

Hindus across the world celebrate Deepavali in honour of the return of Lord Rama, his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana from Lanka after defeating Ravana by illuminating their path.

To me it is visiting friends' homes, being fed delicious food to the point of near-explosion and love, lots of it.
