selection in action

Seeing as I have a large amount of excess time and no-one shouting for anything this week it made sense to take a day off whilst the town is still mostly uninfected with christmas music and decoration. I was originally going to bike along the canal to Livingston to see if the Cadbury outlet shop in McArthur Glen was selling mini-eggs but the rain makes the canal unpleasant, especially when the bottom bracket may need to be taken into a shop to be looked at seeing as bicycle-shop people look sternly at any (even temporary) mud about the bicycle's delicate portions. Settled for a day of local wandering instead, returning some ill-fitting experimental work-trousers to their shop after spending two weeks pondering whether or not to keep them, visiting the Close Up exhibition at the Fruitmarket gallery (stills mostly meh but a couple of the films worth seeing, particularly the one in the north-east room on the first floor) and drinking lots of coffee in various places (Black Medicine seem to have lost it slightly... falafel panini still tasty but the coffee no longer quite has the flavour to make it worth having to drink as fast as is necessary to prevent it going tepid in the wide-topped cups in which it is served) in between trundling randomly around. I believe there is another free exhibition thing in the Botanics but I forgot to check the time, detoured on the way over and got there just as the gates shut. Didn't get to the bicycle-shop in the end either.
