A long long day today attending a 'Getting Active in the Outdoors' conference at the British Mountaineering Council's offices in Manchester. As ever when the outdoor community gets together there were lots of side meetings, coffee discussions and laughing - but slowly the outdoors is becoming a united sector who's benefits to society are starting to be recognised. One statistic from today;
80% of people who participate in mountain sports before the age of 15 continue to do so for life. No other sport comes close. Makes you think.
Driving back North it was almost comic the ferocity with which the rain hit as soon as I passed the 'welcome to Cumbria' sign on the motorway, and pulling up at home 14hours after I left I realised I hadn't taken a picture or thought of blip all day (& that's rare!) - then I noticed the spiders...lots & lots of spiders - this little Orb Weaver being the most colourful of the bunch.
