Writing Box

Today's the day ......................... to remember

At 11.00am this morning, I was alone in the house - making some scones in the kitchen.  The radio was on and precisely on the hour, the chimes of Big Ben rang out to announce the start of the two minutes of silence customary on this special day of remembrance.  And although I was on my own - I'm sure my thoughts would have been similar to those of millions of people round the world who were also silently remembering.

This is a wooden writing box that we have in the house that once belonged to Will's Great Uncle Alcwyn.  You can just about read the inscription on the lid which says Alcwyn E. Evans 1913 . In the box, he would have kept writing paper, envelopes and pens.  He didn't have it for long because he - and his brother - were among the many casualties of the 1st World War.

And today there would have been many, many similar thoughts and memories .........................
