Not suitable for dirt roads
I'd opted for an automatic bike and ended up with a tiny girly, metallic red scoopy. Which would have been fine if we were sticking to the tourist trail but we weren't, so dirt roads and volcanic ash were the order of the day.
We drove up a nearly vertical road in between massive trucks and lorries. I was very proud of the little unsuitable bike for making it. The adrenaline rush was welcome too.
The constant lorry traffic was transporting the volcanic ash for building material on other parts of the island, so it seemed strange that no money had been spent on the surfaces in the tiny run down villages in the area.
