Lone star
A red communist era star (the one atop the Troitskaya Tower) peeks out amongst the Orthodox domes of the Kremlin's Anunciation Cathedral. Red stars were installed on 5 towers 80 years ago (almost to the day - in October 1935), and replaced large two-headed eagles, which were symbols of Imperial Russia.
I didn't realise that the stars are a big as they are - up to 3.75 metres diameter - and that they are mounted on bearings to enable them to revolve in the wind. There is apparently a point in Moscow from which all five stars are visible at once but I've yet to discover it.
