Dunsyre Hill - from the Halfway Point

My Sunday Ride took me around the Pentlands. Riding out wasn't too bad initially. Out to Blyth Bridge through Penicuik, West Linton and Romannobridge was ok, although the descent in to the Blyth Bridge required a little concentration. Just after Blyth Bridge, I turn right on to a minor road heading west. There is a short spell along the busy A702, before I turn off on to a minor road. The minor roads are still wet from last night 's rain. I stop to take some pictures of the southern end of the Pentlands.

After taking this picture, the wind seemed to have whipped up. In places I was pushed along the road. In others, side wind did their best to push me off my bike. I didn't get a chance to notice the sign for Little Sparta. Its good to get to Newbigging and the A721.

From Carnwath, I take the A70 Lang Whang back to Edinburgh. The high point at Auchinoon was interesting, especially the descent. Fierce side winds whirled through the trees. From Leyden Road onwards, I was lower down, and the riding was much easier.

I take the scenic Glenbrook Road in to Balerno before rejoin the A70 through Currie and Juniper Green. The final route home could have been quite difficult as I should have been riding in to the wind, but I suppose there are more trees and buildings through Colinton and Fairmilehead.

I am quite glad to get home having done a challenging 93km.

Afternoon spent in as my partner has two craft fairs this week. Just as well, as the rain has started. Nice timing there then.
