No ZESA

No Zesa

Zesa stands for Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority – or something like that.  Anyway, everyone calls electricity Zesa and it’s been on and off for days due to the heat and thunder, which gets quite wearing.

It’s kind of romantic in the evening, after the generator has been switched off to bath by candle light and go to bed with a candle. However, the downsides, such as loosing your work because of a power cut, or freezers that seem on the brink of defrosting become a bit of a pain. This leads to slight fear of the state of the meat you are eating and just how many times it has been slightly thawed and then frozen again.

The lack of power caused a slight emergency over the weekend as the pump from the damn wasn’t on for long enough to fill the reservoir and so some of the paddocks ran out of water, not ideal, but all sorted thankfully.  Poor Dirk is now deployed sorting out water pumps and the like, I’m slightly confused about what needs doing, so employ the tried and tested ‘yes dear’ when needed.

We’ve been following the Norwegian weather forecast – for Zimbabwe, which is apparently the most accurate (who knew?), that said, last week rain was promised on Saturday, then they changed it to today (high hopes this morning when there was plenty of thunder and a change in atmospheric pressure), and now they are teasing us with Wednesday.  Fast falling out of love with the Norwegians and their weather forecast.
