Tractor Tuesday is likely to now start being a real challenge. Despite the continuing good weather, almost all the normal tasks in the farming year are done around here. I mentioned it the other day so sorry for the repeat - 11th November was traditionally the formal end of the farming year, annual rents were paid on this day and animals that were not worth keeping over winter slaughtered.
I did see one tractor in the distance, out spreading slurry before the rain and/or snow arrives at the weekend. Bit surprised as the winter ban on slurry started for arable fields on 1st November and for pastures on 15th. Perhaps due to the warm weather, the ban has been delayed. While the ban is certainly needed in the winter sport tourist areas (who likes brown snow) the main reason for the ban is because the plants are dormant and can't take up the fertilizer and so heavy rain would wash it all in to the rivers.
I had picked out the Fendt nearest to the camera as suitable for my needs and wallet but then didn't do the deal - I don't like red wheels.
Photo taken at Ottobeuren's very small branch of the company "BayWa" who have sole Fendt distribution rights for Germany. BayWa founded in 1923 is based in Munich and has sales of 15bn Euros.
A year before the company MARTIN was formed in Ottobeuren. You can see their sign above the rooftops in the background. A worldwide leading manufacturer of woodworking machines (sawing, planing, shaping, drilling). It remains a family run business, employing about 150 people and has always remained true to its location, never tempted to outsource or move production abroad. Compared to the 17,000 BayWa employees, a dwarf but one proud of it's products.
