Star of screen?

Wednesday was the date for recommendations coming in to me from local areas for those members of the public who wish to be considered for membership of the national Children's Panel.

This year our recruitment campaign, despite some criticism from one quarter, generated more applications than last year. With some anticipated retirals we are looking to recruit around 530 new panel members this year to make sure we can have enough people available to take decisions about Scotland's most vulnerable children and young people. After satisfactorily completing training, of course.

Today I was given the task of recording a welcome message to be used at local evenings when the successful applicants come together for the first time.

We don't have fancy equipment but despite the elastic bands we hope that the film will provide some initial information and welcome as part of their induction session.
