What's for dinner?

I put a chuck roast in the slow cooker when I left for work this morning, then cut it up when I got home and made a big pot of vegetable soup, hoping it would turn out the way my grandmother's always did. I always thought she made the best vegetable soup. And I must say, it was close. The key ingredient is cabbage - it adds something special to the flavor. 

In the extra I put a photo of the sand hill cranes - I was surprised to see them again this morning.
