The Wallace Collection

We had lunch here today in the lovely atrium cafe, and then wandered around the opulent rooms inspecting the paintings and artefacts.

My favourites were the 16th century Dutch depictions of daily life - like a window looking back in time. A scene showing a woman cooking (in what looked like a one room dwelling, with all the bedding pushed back against the wall) was particularly poignant. She looked worn down. The contrast between this scene and the room the painting was hung in couldn't have been more stark.
