The trench

Living on a brand new estate, you'd expect the utility companies would have got things right .... It seems to be the electricity board who have fluffed things and they drew up plans to fix it, which the builders and the gas company have worked with. Five weeks ago the building company's workers dug up the fronts of our houses, and the gas company did their bit. Then the electricity company refused to do their bit because something is wrong with the way the cables are laid, too close to the houses ... It was pointed out that they had written up the plan ... Anyhoo, seems like they may yet dig up the other side of the road ... Sav went to complain about it, which is how we know 'so much' about what's going on, having received no written updates.

The building company didn't seem too bothered until he got a bit ratty with them. The metal railings are a new addition, as we'd had flimsy plastic ones there which were not up to the high winds we've been subjected to ( oh, that was our roof tile that was in the road, so we're waiting to hear about that too ). We've had to pick them up and put them back in place nearly every morning. Sav pointed out they were falling short in the health and safety arena, to which he was asked what does he know about it - they were nicer to him when he said he works on the railway so knows quite a lot actually ( tested on it every two years to keep his qualifications up ). The metal barriers arrived that afternoon!

The trench goes across our drives too, and there's quite a step to get up onto the metal ramp that covers it, which isn't doing our car much good, but if we tried to claim against them for the knocking noise it now makes they'd just say " prove it ". Grrrr!
