Landlubbers
Where we live, in the Midlands, it's probably just about as far from the sea as you can get in the UK. So it's a curious thing that dotted around the borough we have various thriving flocks of seagulls.
I think maybe they came here on holiday once for an 'inland-break' and possibly decided that there was less competition and just ended up staying on indefinitely. Or maybe they are just lost. Whatever the reason, it's an odd, but strangely pleasant sight to see them so far from the sea.
They appear to have well established routines in the area. I've been after this shot for the whole year, since I snapped them on my phone by the little one's school in January, but wanted to get them with a better camera. Then they disappeared, but I was told don't worry, they'll be back later in the year, and they were right because here they are again. Apparently this flock lives just a few miles away in the summer.
And when they are here in the colder months, they only stay in this spot for the mornings mostly. Obviously there's more interesting places to go in the afternoons. Probably to a nice tea room. Or the cinema. Who knows?
And on that note, I may go and re-read a bit of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, which if you've never heard of, maybe you might enjoy. I think the seagull here on the end might be Jonathan.. doing his own thing.
