Medusa and the Beezles

These beezles (aka sheep) have evidently grazed directly on Medusa. Oh! Perhaps I meant to write 'gazed'.

They have certainly been turned to stone.

The animals are to be found in the market town of Bicester, in the northern part of Oxfordshire. This group is located, appropriately enough, at the entrance to Sheep Street, just off the Market Square. I believe the work is known as The Sheep Seat.

Sheep, and especially wool, have had a long association with Bicester. Many industries were associated with wool, and the clothworker, fuller, weaver, woolman, woollen draper, and clothier are found in 17thcentury records. Wool combing was apparently a particularly important activity here.
