Top of the Rock
More than one person has recommended that for the best view over Manhattan, the Rockefeller Centre is preferable to the Empire State Building.
So that is what we did, whizzed up 67 floors in 43 seconds; and it was excellent.
The Rockefeller also has some of the most beautiful deco architecture I have ever seen, and what is great about buildings here is that you can wander around the lobbies and hallways quite freely and for nothing.
We gave our legs a rest after yesterday and stayed in a smaller area, but still fitted in a spot of lunch at Grand Central station's Oyster bar (well, B had oysters I'm not keen so stuck to some delicious smoked trout). It was a brilliant experience sitting at the bar watching the chefs shuck hundreds of oysters and make chowder in the historic kettles.
