Out on the town

Tonight we had a rare night out and for the first time left the boy with his grandmother for the evening.  It didn't go exactly to plan, but wasn't bad. 

We went off to a ball for the evening, which was great fun, but we agreed on the way home that we have been somewhat spoilt in the past with events we have been to.   Tonights ball stated on the tickets that no cooler boxes with drinks in should be bought in and the 'smart/formal' dress code seemed to be interpreted by some as jeans and a shirt.  It was also an insight into how social occasions work here, the ladies sit around in their group talking, and the men stand around in their group talking.  The wives will generally get the food for their husbands from the buffet and then after dinner, the wives will dance and the men stand around drinking / watching the ladies dance. Anyway, we had a great night and my husband had all he wanted for dinner because he went up the buffet himself. 

Back home, the baby sitting went ok - there were some tears at around bed time, but all worked out fine in the end.
