Deliverance

I think this is the first hotel I've stayed at where you get a paper under the door - does this mean my status has improved?

One of the key differences between Jakarta and smaller cities in the region is that you feel so insignificant and that you're going to be swept away in its chaos. However the anonymity for a foreigner isn't there as its less diverse than Phnom Penh and other places so even in the most expat area you will still receive stares. So it's a strange double feeling of almost being absorbed by the chaos yet being very noticeable at the same time. It's not a feeling to object to for any reason - but I can't recall other cities that have elicited the same feeling. Maybe Mombasa.

The effort of getting anywhere in Jakarta does often mean that the easier option is to stay within a 100m radius of your hotel. So today's been one of those: scuttling out to buy jackfruit, attempting to do yoga in my room, perusing the free paper, and worrrrrrkinggggg.
