The Art of Cake
Today Brian had a day off work. We had planned to go out somewhere and although we had to change our plans slightly due to finally finding a plumber to come and do the boiler, we still had a great day out.
We went to Woodhall Spa - nearer to home than we'd intended staying. It's a lovely, delightful village which pitches to he tourist trade. It's also the village I grew up in, though it has changed a lot (for the better!) since those days!
We discovered a little arcade of gorgeous unique shops, including a pet shop where I bought a little stocking of toys for Minstrel's Christmas present, and Sophisticake a lady who makes amazing cakes like the one you see here.
She made the wedding cake for Prince Charles and Camilla's wedding and many other Royal cakes. As you may know I'm not one to be impressed by Royalty, but I was very impressed by this lady's talent as her cakes are not only visually stunning, but also taste divine! She gave us a little sample each, and as Brian doesn't like fruit cake I got to eat both! The shoes are made of icing!
The plumber is here as I type, he is cracking on with what has turned out to be a bigger job than we'd expected due to changes in regulations since the last boiler was fitted. It's going to take him three nights to get up and running, and then further changes to pipes in the New Year! We should have hot water by tomorrow and heat by Friday! Yaayy!
