Pretoria, in the north of South Africa, where I lived for many years, is known as the Jacaranda City because there are so many jacaranda trees there. They have recently been declared plants -non grata, and I think one is not allowed to plant new ones since they are alien and using too much of our precious water. In our little town in the South of South Africa there are also a lot of jacarandas, and they do make a pretty picture. One must just be careful not to step on the blossoms barefoot since there often are bees hiding there!
