Funicular!

Well it's a new word on me... and I like it!   I thought it meant a tramway built just for fun.. which this was I think! 
A working day again.. of course (but I think we've got over the brow and now it's sledging all the way down.. yahooooo!)
I was going to nip out to The Dickensian Christmas Festival in Grassington int Dales ...but the weather was foul and time was precious.. I will go next Sat!
So went for a quick walk on Shipley glen and visited the tramway there.  I salute the volunteers who run it but it's not the best tourist attraction.. its history and nostalgia are a priceless treasure however.
Originally operated by gas (and I guess those lovely lamps too?) it used to take the Victorian mill workers up the hill from Saltaire to the Glen up top, where there was a fairground, fresh air and much merriment. 
Just love the thought of people getting dressed in their finery, for a trip up the hill to the magical fairy land at the top!
