Road Closed!!!!

The road to Lazonby from Kirkoswald was closed today and for the foreseeable future. Last time this happened was about ten years ago and the road had to be reinstated as  it was washed away. This meant an eight mile detour and if that bridge was closed then another twelve mile detour to the other bridge that was built as a temporary bridge many years ago. On this stretch of road is  the very substantially built Lazonby Bridge, you can't see it in the picture but it is isolated in the surrounding flood plain (which seems to have served its purpose this year) and with its dramatic arches  looks remarkably like a Loch Ness Monster. Two women were rescued from this car last night. The water was up to the windows when a local farmer came along and assisted. I guess it will need more than a lick of paint. There were three other vehicles that I know of that also became aquatic last night. There is also an incredibly strong current in the centre.
