A Dying Breed

Coming from the US, it is always a delight to see the local specialist shop in the UK.  Every time I visit I can't help but stop and stare when I come across a locally owned butchers.  When I was young, my mum used to send me out to the local village shops and I would pick up our 1 lb of brisket and other meaty treats from the butchers with the sawdust strewn floor.  I don't think I have ever seen a sight like this in the US, and it only seems a matter of time before the big supermarkets with their chain ethics and predominantly generic offerings will sweep aside such islands of excellence in the UK - let's hope not, but in the meantime, here is a retro look at a still surviving local butcher's shop in Boldmere, Birmingham
