It's Wednesday and ............
............. it's " Whisper ".
Our 'appointment' was successful yesterday and this is the little guy that came home with us.
We went to the same dog rescue that both of our boys came from (in 1993 and 2009) ....... so many looking for re-homing and, as one of the helpers said (and I had never thought of it this way), not only is a dog re-homed wonderful for that dog but it leaves a place open for another to be saved.
This rescue is definitely not fancy - in fact the conditions are much less than ideal - but they take dogs from the pound on their seventh day saving them from death, they take troubled dogs, they never put a healthy dog to sleep and some of the animals they have will see out their natural life there.
They run on only donations and adoption fees (which are actually quite high compared to some places) but it deters people who "just want a dog" - one of their ideas is that if you cannot afford the adoption fee then maybe you can't afford to have a dog and look after it properly - sounds a little harsh but makes sense.
Himself wanted a German Shepherd that we saw but he was so troubled and disturbed that he wouldn't even come near him. I had my eye on a mastiff cross but when we walked her she was unmanageably strong on the lead (for us). There was a lovely lurcher/cross but he snarled and leapt at other dogs.
THEN ..... we saw this cute little chap. Looked at each other, looked back at him and were in total agreement.
He's 2 years 2 months old, from Romania (was a street dog), has his own passport and is inoculated, chipped and neutered (part of the adoption fee pays for that being already done).
We are told that he has separation anxiety issues - so any advice on this from all of you in blipland would be very welcome.
After the rescue we took him straight to our vets' surgery - they offer a free, comprehensive health check and 'chip' check for all rescued animals - he's very underweight (see extra photo) but otherwise seems healthy.
Looking at him I suspect he has some whippet/lurcher/tall terrier (he has a tightly curled tail when standing up) in there and maybe a smidge of labrador somewhere in the past!
He has very, very long legs (can reach onto the cooker and work surfaces) and is also very food focused - he will sit but as soon as the bowl gets near the floor he leaps foward ......
We have gone from big, hairy and stunningly beautiful with Shadow to small, lean (skinny) and cute with Whisper.
His name was Snowy but I thought that sounded more like a rabbit (apologies to all the Snowy dogs out there - lol) - and he looks like a will o' the wisp - so Whisper it is.
Expect more photos - probably on Wednesdays!!
