Street music, Brighton

A very good day in Brighton. We went back to Wetherspoons for breakfast, which was probably the lowest point of the day, where the food was rather cold and the porage had only been slightly introduced to the milk.

A bit of an amble around the Lanes and other shopping areas followed, browsing for presents and being mildly successful. We saw these musicians near the Clock Tower. They were very talented, beating out a furious rhythm, exchanging sticks and entertaining the crowds royally.

From there it was a 7 mile return stroll along the seafront to Portslade on Sea, into the teeth of a gale on the way out and bowled along on the way back, past the new Brighton i360 attraction that's being built near the old West Pier. We waited for the starling murmuration to appear but although we saw some flocks come over the birds had obviously decided not to put on a show tonight.

This evening was a red letter evening as we went to the cinema (a rare occasion) to see Lady in a Van by Alan Bennett. Very good, gentle humour with a good storyline. We finished back at the hotel for a late supper, wondering if we'd done the right thing by eating at the hotel rather than in one of the thousands of places in the city. Turned out a good meal and a meal deal too.
