Westgate Arcade

Another grey and gloomy day, after a brief flush of pink at dawn. We had a family Christmas shopping trip into Peterborough this evening, which was quite successful in terms of getting some  presents, but the German sausage stall that we'd been planning to visit was shut, which seemed bizarre when the town centre was quite busy.

The Westgate Arcade is one of the surviving remnants of old Peterborough, much of which was destroyed when the Queensgate centre was builtin the 1970's. It has recently been refurbished, including the installation of a new lighting scheme which utilises low energy and LED lighting, The terracotta ceiling and brown shop fronts were replaced with a slate blue colour palette, new signage, tiling and fascias for a more contemporary feel, which looks even better with the Christmas lights.
