Bell Foundry

Today we had the privilege of seeing the two new bells being cast at Taylor's of Loughborough. These will be added to the 8 bells which were taken from Bollington church and which are being stored at Taylor's. Early next year they will be installed at the local church in Stockton Heath and then six months or so after that they will ring out.

This photo was taken while the guys were waiting for the molten bell metal to reach the right temperature before pouring it into the molds. This chap is preparing the inscription on another mold. Once, when he was not concentrating fully, when the bell was broken out the mold the inscription read - To the glory of our DOG -.

It was wonderful to tour round the foundry and learn more about how bells are made. It was an honour to have been present when the bells were cast. On Monday they will be raised from the sandpit and the mold will be broken open.

More photos from the day are posted here.
