Olives

The lovely town of Nyons is famous for the Tanche olives which grow in the area.
These olives are used for making olive oil, and also made into a paste called Tapenade, as well as being eaten whole.
The olives have their own AOC (Appelation d'origine controlee) granted in 1994.
They are soft with no trace of bitterness. The whole ones are sold when they are black, not green. Are wonderful mixed with garlic and herbs.

In the photo you will see them growing on the hill side behind the bell tower.

You can tell by the brightness of this photo it was very hot 34c and sunny!
