And then.. You were gone
So it was, we rose this morning at 3.30, and all piled sleepily and quietly into the car.
We drove the 75 miles to the airport, and reached a massive queue.
As Boy took his place at the desk, I saw him place his head in his hands; and I knew something was amiss.
Tooli came running over to us, to tell us the Pilot had taken sick and they had no replacement pilots in Edinburgh one would have to be flown in from London; however, Boy had a flight to catch in London, and it was time critical. Staff were all running round trying to squeeze him in somewhere else.
And squeeze him in somewhere else they did - but it meant a breakneck run to the Departures Lounge and I thought, I really did think that I was going to see him off without my regulation tears.
We all came to a stumbling halt at the security door, and he turned and said "I gotta go now", He looked at me, and as he said, I just dissolved. The tears streamed and I held on to him unable to tell him how much I had enjoyed having him here, how much I would miss him, and how much it had meant having him home for a little while.
I let him go and let him hug Tooli and His Da; while I just stood and bubbled.
We hugged once more, and then he was gone. The three of us stood and gazed as he queued in one line, and then another, and then dropped his bag and jacket, and then was gone.
We wandered away from the lounge, Tooli walking ahead, and trying to avoid my glance. Si squeezing my hand and patting my head. Me, just sobbing.
As we walked to the coffee shop, I threw my arm around Tooli and she said "no no you'll start me off too", and the two of us walked the same direction, not looking at each other. Sniffing loudly.
By the time we had gotten to the car, we were fine. Boy was already on the plane (Thank you so much BA), and we took off in one direction, and he in the other.
He made it to one place in London, transferred and then began a journey to another Continent and another adventure.
And we went to MacDonalds.
And then Bed.
And then we all got up again, Tooli did Sun Salutations while we walked, and then I had some wine.
And now I start my countdown til we see him over there.
