Plan B
We woke this morning to the news that York was experiencing severe flooding - a disaster for James and girlfriend Laura who had a booked and paid for, a short city break to York for a couple of days which was a gift from Laura for James's birthday in August.
Unsure whether to start the long journey up to York James hit the phones, unsurprisingly as it turned out, the hotel / tourist information were not answering, which led James, in desperation, to ring other business nearby to find out the extent of the flooding. The motorbike shop over the road was the only one to answer and requested he call back later as the shop was 'underwater'.
After a lot of frustration and indecision, they cancelled the trip and accepted that they must most likely write off the money.
However, their nearest and dearest rallied round to try and salvage the situation. Laura's' Dad treated them to lunch out today in Cambridge and Martin has booked them a 'boutique' hotel on points in London for tomorrow night.
Today they have been planning what to do in London, and the mood has lightened considerably.
Our hearts go out to the victims of flooding in England at the moment. The situation looks pretty terrible. We are lucky to be able to make other plans and are grateful not to be stuck in the middle of it.
Extra picture is an aerial photo of where they should have been tonight.
