A Writer's Life

By Awriterslife

Born on the 4th of July

A year ago today, I gave myself the most wonderful gift I could buy. When I received the settlement for my car accident (it had lagged for 3 years of litigation, lawyers fees, delays and nervous breakdowns, and turned out to be settled the day before the hearing, to my advantage, though not even half what I had payed, but it was still better than nothing), I decided that, for the first time in 25 years, I would be able to see without glasses. I've always been allergic to contact lenses, and I was very, very myopic, so to get rid of the glasses felt like a new beginning.

I remember telling the surgeon (he prescribed my first glasses when I was 11 or 12) 15 minutes after the surgery: I don't think I've ever seen you so well.

That surgery was a miracle. Every new thing I could do without glasses (driving, but also seeing the time, washing myself, existing!!) felt like a wonderful gift.

A year later, it still is wonderful. And I think it's time to get rid of the old glasses that I haven't worn one day, even one minute, since I left the operation chair!

A few back blips. I'll try to be better from now on:
