Carillon
We decided to visit Bournville today - I'd heard about a knitting shop I wanted to visit and we thought we could have a wander round this area which was established by the Cadbury family around their factory. The Knitting shop was closed but we did manage a look around the area seeing how the family provided for their workers. It's now a very desirable part of Birmingham (even though it's home to Cadbury's World) and we will go back soon to visit Selly Manor. The Carillon is a particular attraction which we will try to hear one day soon too...
Before Blip (BB) we would probably not have bothered doing this!
"The Bournville Carillon was erected in a semi-rural location in 1906, before the onslaught of urban development and the building of the busy main road by which it now stands adjacent. However, Bournville remains an idyllic leafy suburb of Birmingham in the English West Midlands, and the sound of the carillon drifting across the gardens of Bournville on a perfect summer's day is truly wonderful.

This carillon ranks as one of the finest and largest in Great Britain, having 48 bells hung below a domed copper cupola above the tower of of the junior and infant schools on Bournville Village Green. It is owned and administered by the Bournville Village Trust, which was established in 1900 by George Cadbury (who is most famous for his chocolate factory), to manage the building estate which he began to develop five years earlier.

As a general rule, the carillon will be played twice every Saturday commencing at 12.00 noon and 3.00 p.m. for approximately one hour on each occasion. Any exceptions to this standing arrangement will be displayed in the visitor centre as and when necessary. Please check for special arrangements and performances. Bookings to visit the carillon and see it being played will be taken in the visitor centre."
I eventually got some wool and big needles at the local knitting shop in Halesowen. I'm going to give it to Mom to see how she gets on knitting a hat. She's been very interested in the jumper I'm knitting and has volunteered to help on several occasions. I'll let you know how it goes!
I also sent a Whatsapp message to the BBC today about Blip! I wonder what will happen to that! Anyone got any contacts?
