Lights On

It was 8:20 am and George Heriot's school was illuminated and shining like a beacon in the dark dawn of what promised to be a dreich day.
What I can't help being concerned about is the cost to the hardworking parent, daughter #2 included, of keeping the admittedly beautiful building lit throughout the Christmas period and possibly throughout the hours of darkness all year round. Perhaps it is not the school fees but the City Council that pays the electricity bill of all historic buildings, in which case it is likely my council tax which bears the brunt of the expense.

On the other side of the road, Quartermile One, an all glass new build block of office buildings including Sky Scanner, was also ablaze with lights, although there was not one worker behind the windows.

Multiplying this tiny land area of energy consumption billions of time for world wide usage, then the production facilities needed for it is too staggering to calculate.
