We're staying not far from Joinville so it seemed like a good idea to pop in and have a look around. Another hot day but a little more muggy today. Joinville was clearly a prosperous town at some point in the past but it's now pretty much shut; the shops we saw were either boarded up, for sale, for rent or (bizarrely!) hairdressers. Nice details on the buildings however; the above was one of a matching pair of shutter latches; the one on the other side was male.

The last couple of days we've been treated to military jets overhead; today we had a couple of Eurofighters dog fighting for about 30 minutes directly overhead which was spectacular (if noisy; they were so low you could clearly see the vapour being formed by the shocks over their wings when they executed a tight turn). I thought I would google their base and I guess they must be from St. Dizier. The only problem is, France doesn't have any Eurofighters... hmmm, there's another delta-winged, canard equipped multi-role aircraft? Ah yes, the Dassault Rafale. Pretty similar in silhouette however with a less angular shape and canard further back.
