Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2016 Monday -- Vista Lookout north of SantaBarbara

All weekend the news people harped about the upcoming storms. Supposed to be three or four storms arriving this week, but that did not materialize today. It was spitting rain this morning in Cayucos as we loaded pups and packed the car to return to southern California.

We decided not to stay this week while the construction guys are busy. It slows them to have us around and as nice as it is to have the guest room to use, without a functioning kitchen, it gets expensive to stay and purchase meals.

So after a nice long weekend, we made the decision to head back to southern California and especially since we were suppose to have a week of rain. The drive was spectacular and even more wonderful because we had no reason to hurry since school is out for me.

We stopped at this vista lookout for the very first time today. There was a knoll between us and the highway, which blocked the traffic noise. The sound of the waves was lovely. They only thing that could have made it better would have been for a train to come past us.

The construction guys did lots of internal work the seven days they've been there since we left the Monday morning before Christmas. They worked in the garage installing more beams to reinforce the floor in the upstairs. So when we arrived last Thursday late afternoon, I walked around trying to figure out what they had accomplished, and then Mr. Fun recognized while in the garage that serious reinforcing work had been accomplished (new beams).

Inside the house what has been accomplished is the tile shower in the new master bath and part of the tile floor in the entry way and all of the kitchen (the floor used to flex quite a bit, too much to have tile on it -- with the stiffer floor, the tile will hopefully not crack). If it does crack, we'll be replacing it in a year or ten (ugh!).

So now this week the guys can complete the tile from the front door all the way to the back bathroom. Carpet in the sunset room and bedroom is scheduled to be installed in a couple weeks. Then we can put a bed upstairs.

The guys told us that kitchen appliances are all at the appliance store's warehouse in San Luis Obispo and can be delivered on a Tuesday or Thursday.

We are excited and can hardly wait to move back into the house.
