The Latin School...

... or in Icelandic: Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík, is the oldest school in Iceland. The school, not the house, has its roots in the school at the Skálholt bishopric in 1056. The school moved to Reykjavik in 1786, was for a while in Bessastadir (now the home of the president) but in 1846 moved into this house that was then the largest house in Reykjavik.

The inserted picture is from 1860. The school house is farthest to the right. The Lutheran Cathedral Church is in the middle. The house to the left, similar to this one was built as a prison but to day it is the offices of the prime minister - funny, isn't it!

My father and my younger son both attended this school.
