Fox Glacier

The wind was up so the helicopters weren't. We compromised and went to the see the Glacier on foot which involved a 90 minute hike. It seemed a pity to stop before we actually reached the glacier but all the signs made it clear that we would die if we went on, so we didn't. Quite different from some of the other NZ approaches to dangerous pursuits that we have seen - most just seem to say something along the lines of "what you are doing is incredibly dangerous and you may suffer horrible injury or death if you continue, but if you want to, please just sign this disclaimer and get stuck in.) This advice is applied equally to Bungy Jumping, Gorge Swinging, Jet Boat River Riding, Sky Diving, Paragliding/sailing and beer drinking.
Still waiting for the weather to clear - it didn't look likely within the next 24hrs. - we also had time to walk around Lake Matheson and totally exhausted Sheila who's back was suffering. Later, after eating out in another awesome NZ restaurant with we wifi, we had early night as an early morning helicopter flight was an option if the weather allowed.
