More men in kilts! Where am I?
Off into the city today. Took the train into Central Station, only a couple of stops. What a great city! We walked across to the South Side. It reminded me of London, as that's where the theatres, museums and art galleries are situated. Fantastic cafes and swimming pools and boardwalks and pubs. It even has a big ferris wheel.
We came out from the station, without a map, and started walking. A vision appeared in front of us. A man in a kilt, with a woman of Asian origin on his arm. Well, she was holding on to his arm, she wasn't actually on it. She was wearing a tartan dress. I immediately turned around and followed them. They walked quite fast, but I caught up with them at traffic lights, taking photos of their back view. (Don't tell them).
Not too shy at asking folk now, I spoke to him. Yes, surprise, surprise - he was Scottish. From Loanhead! I don't think the lady was from Scotland, though... He told us it was Tartan Day, and he was heading to it. And sure enough, I could hear pipes, and I could see lots of kilts. Where was I? I had such fun. Loads of man in kilts and pipe bands. Surreal! Even more surreal was a stall proclaiming 'Scottish Food'. With a queue!
From there we walked across the river and along the south side of the river. Amazing to think that 18 months ago it was under water!
Came back to more celebrations. Yesterday there was some drama, as the house sale hadn't gone through, and our hosts were frantic with worry. But when we came home, they were all smiles. The vendors had signed! Sighs all round. More champagne opened, neighbours came over. Barbecue fired up. Having a beer called One Fifty Lashes. I love it here!
