Betty's York

An early shopping trip to York. As we walked down Stonegate we met my friend Jenny who was waiting for the cafe to open. It brought back memories of its predecessor Taylor's Tea Rooms. Each Saturday a group of my Hockey pals and I would meet up for a pot of tea and a chat before playing for York Women first eleven in the afternoon. I believe some still continue this tradition.

Jenny mentioned the court yard at the side so couldn't resist some research. The shop used to be a German Watchmakers (originally from Baden)in the 19th century. The court formerly Watson's Court was renamed after the watchmaker.

Normally the street is pedestrian only but we were so early the restrictions had not started. Hope you can make out the famous Yorkshire Fat Rascals in the window. Definitely a haven given the weather today!
