A WALK ALONG THE BEACH

in the morning with Piet Hein. Still calm and cloudless sky. A strange phenomenon I suddenly saw. A column of cormorants, probably from one colony, hundreds and hundreds I saw, they flew low above the water, not too far from the shore. An amazing sight. When the first came at the Zandmotor they flew up, flew round and landed on the sand. There came no end to the colony for a long time. I looked and looked and had never ever seen something like it. Then there were fewer and fewer till I saw the last one.
Piet Hein did swim in the sea, I am not sure when I will follow.
When I came back I helped Mischa with her project and he had fun, but were a kind of exhausted too when we had finished.
In the afternoon I walked along the ponds. I saw so many damselflies, blue coloured, and an elder woman came near and said pointing to a pair of coots, they have no young ones any longer, they started with 9 and see they make another nest.
The heron of the picture I saw standing in the pond, her sharp eyes, dangerous bill
and slowly wading throught the water, silently.

My haiku:

I did not look back
But felt the shadow forecast
An ever fading

And the proverb:

You stout and I stout, who shall carry the dirt out?
