U-Bahn München: 64/100 Neuperlach Süd
Munich Underground: 64/100 Neuperlach Süd
Today's entry in my strictly alphabetical Munich underground series is Neuperlach Süd underground station. Since its opening in October 1980 - together with stations like Karl-Preis-Platz or Fraunhoferstraße - it is the souther terminus of the brown U5 line (then U8). The stop is special in the Munich underground network in many regards. It is one of only six stations that are actually located above ground, and the only station that is constructed as a bridge across a road. The most destinctive feature, however, is the possibility to change from the suburban train network to the underground network at the same platform - a singularity for Munich.
The picture shows two moving trains - a blue underground line heading north/west into the city on track 1 on the left side, and a red suburban train on track 3 on the right side going south/east.
Today was definitely not the best day for photographing an outdoor station, as there was pretty heavy snowing going on. Design-wise the station is also super dull, but I can promise you the next entry in my series is going to be way better!
