Bring me Sunshine.... In your smile
Living on the West Coast of Scotland, on a west facing peninsula, sheltered by the hills of Arran across the water, and warmed by the Gulf Stream, washing past our shores; we very, very rarely see snow laying on our streets.
When we left the house this morning it was fine; 10 miles up the road, we drove through the wardrobe door and into Narnia - and when we came home, it was still falling, and laying in town.
The first time I ever saw snow like this, I was in my first year at Edinburgh; i was sat in the canteen watching big, fat, fluffy flakes tumble from the sky and cover the ground out side.
One of the canteen ladies came over to me and said "you really need to get going, the buses will be stopping soon". In my day dreams, everyone had been leaving round about me, and I was lost in the snow.
I set off, and waited for the bus, and waited and waited and waited. Nothing. I moved round the corner; and waited, nothing. I went back to the "busy" bus stop, and decided I would get the first busy bus I could find.
That bus took me to Lothian Road, and told me unceremoniously, "we're stopping here". So off I got. And waited some more for a bus. The snow was now about 8 inches deep, and I was still in total awe of this amazing downpour.
As I stood at the bus stop a lady stopped and said "the buses are all cancelled now". I considered for a moment, and thought. Better start walking.
And I did.
5 miles. In snow almost a foot deep. In trainers.
Didn't put me off snow though.
Loved it.
